Journalist Serhii Bakhin’s apartment in an apartment building in the Pozniaki District, Kyiv, was damaged by the blast wave from an enemy missile. The journalist says that many of his neighbors’ apartments had windows and balconies blown out, and 150 families live in the 25-story building.
“At one o’clock in the morning (I was already asleep), the first shelling began. In a split second, all the windows in the apartment were blown out by the explosion. The bed I was lying on was not affected — all the glass and fragments lay nearby, something flew past me a few centimeters, fell near my head. I was lucky!” Serhii Bakhin says in a comment to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).
According to him, one out of six windows survived in the apartment, half of the six windows on the balcony, the bathroom door flew out, and the entrance door jammed. Because the windows flew out from the shock wave, the apartment was covered in broken glass.
“I don’t know how much the repair will cost, but I’m alive and well, although there are thousands of splinters from the windows and wood all over the apartment,” says Serhii Bakhin.
He admits that he has no work to do all day today because he is cleaning and doing household chores related to the damage to his home.
Currently, Serhii Bakhin, known in the media community as the head of the newspaper “Culture and Life,” writes for several publications (for example, “Ukrainian Youth”) and conducts patriotic tours of Ukraine.
As a reminder, on the night of June 15, 2026, russia carried out a large-scale combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv, launching over 60 missiles and dozens of drones at the city. As a result of the enemy shelling, 5 people were killed, at least 35 were injured (including two children), and damage and fires were recorded in almost all districts of the capital. Among the iconic sites that were damaged were the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Mystetskyi Arsenal, and the Dovzhenko Film Studio.
