Despite the hundreds of kilometers separating the western and northern parts of Ukraine, the challenges that Ukrainian media workers face every day are common. Recently, the Lviv Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) received a colleague from a region under constant enemy shelling. Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, the coordinator of the Sumy JSC, paid a friendly visit to Lviv.
The JSC’s coordinator in Lviv, Nataliya Voitovych, spoke about how the center has become a reliable rear for hundreds of journalists since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

During the meeting, the coordinators discussed in detail the current security and professional situation in the Sumy Region. Volodymyr Sadivnychyi shared the experience of local media workers working in conditions of constant danger, spoke about the specifics of recording war crimes on the border and the needs that are currently most critical for journalists in his region.
An important part of the dialogue was the coordination of the JSCs’ actions for the future. Colleagues discussed joint projects, exchanged experiences, talked about psychological challenges and strengthening cooperation.
“Mr. Volodymyr‘s visit to Lviv is a manifestation of the true solidarity that our network is based on. It was extremely important for me to hear in what conditions colleagues in the Sumy Region work today. The Sumy JSC does a lot of work, because it helps journalists,” noted Nataliya Voitovych.
According to her, such contacts between the centers are important. Therefore, the Lviv JSC is ready to continue supporting colleagues from other regions.
The joining of efforts of Lviv and Sumy lays a solid foundation for future interregional projects that will strengthen the voices of the media.

The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO, and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.
