The idea of an international solidarity visit with Ukrainian journalists was discussed by the President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Sergiy Tomilenko, during a meeting at the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) headquarters in Brussels with the Secretary General of IFJ, Anthony Bellanger.

The mission could bring together representatives of the IFJ, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), and other influential international organizations. The idea is to visit Ukraine, observe the real working conditions of Ukrainian journalists and media, understand their needs, and urge governments and organizations worldwide to continue providing international support for Ukrainian media professionals.

The IFJ notes that the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC), which the NUJU has organized since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, has proven to be an effective tool for assisting journalists in times of war. This experience is now being implemented in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian journalists have already established a third solidarity media center modeled after the Ukrainian one.

Anthony Bellanger also expressed his sincere admiration for the work of journalists of front-line newspapers and media. Media workers continue to work in extremely difficult conditions, risking their lives.

The IFJ Secretary General emphasized that despite the extreme tension in the world and many other crises, the focus of international attention on Ukraine must be maintained. Because the war is not over and journalists continue to work in extreme conditions.

“This is an idea for now, but we will work on its implementation. The Steering Committee of the European Federation of Journalists, in which I am working in Brussels these days, expresses full support for Ukrainian journalists,” emphasizes Sergiy Tomilenko.
