The main types of contracts that are most often used; essential terms of contracts that must be provided for to protect your rights; the form and procedure for concluding contracts; control over the implementation of contracts; liability for violation of terms – these and other legal aspects became the topic for discussion at the webinar called Fundamentals of Contract Law for the Media. Let’s Learn How to Correctly Conclude Contracts Necessary for Work, which was organized by the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), under the auspices of which a legal hotline for journalists and the media operates.

The relevance of the issue for media professionals is evidenced by the fact that more than 85 journalists and heads of newsrooms registered to participate in the webinar. The broadcast was also conducted on NUJU‘s Facebook page.

“The topic of the webinar was dictated by your numerous questions. We see that since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, many newsrooms have faced challenges related to their business activities. A significant number of journalists also found themselves in a situation where they either need legal assistance with concluding contracts or need support to defend their rights. Therefore, having summarized all the questions, we have scheduled a separate meeting, to which you have been invited today,” said the First Secretary of the NUJU, Lina Kushch, opening the webinar.

The main speaker of the webinar – Doctor of Law, lawyer, and managing partner of IBC Legal Services Mykhailo Kocherov – said that contract law as part of the civil code dates back to ancient Rome. Of course, over the centuries, it has undergone many transformations, “overgrown” with hundreds of laws, but the main thing remains unchanged – the subject, price and term of the contract.

Mykhailo Kocherov emphasized that it is important to understand contract law because it helps journalists protect their rights and avoid misunderstandings in their professional activities.

During the webinar, he told me how to correctly conclude contracts necessary for journalists in their work. The topic was the main types and essential terms of contracts, the procedure for their conclusion, control over the implementation of contracts, and other legal aspects.

We remind you that the free legal assistance hotline of NUJU operates for journalists. Ukrainian media workers can receive advice from highly qualified specialists of the law firm IBC LEGAL SERVICES – lawyers and lawyers with extensive experience.
