The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), in strategic cooperation with the Ukrainian Food Banks Federation charitable fund (UFBF), implemented a large-scale humanitarian initiative to support journalist families working in difficult war conditions. As part of the campaign, 150 families of media workers who found themselves in difficult life circumstances, press veterans and relocated newsrooms in six regions of the country were offered sweets – chocolate wafers and Nestle breakfast cereals, the cost of each set is UAH 1,000. In addition, journalists from the Sumy Region received food sets. Such events are an important expression of solidarity, professional brotherhood and gratitude to journalists for their daily work.
Sumy Region
The border region of Sumy, where media workers work under enemy fire every day, received the largest amount of assistance through the Sumy branch of the Journalists’ Solidarity Centers (JSC) and the regional organization of the NUJU. For the needs of veterans of the media sphere, large families, displaced persons and teams of relocated border newspapers (Bilopilshchyna, Vorskla, and Peremoha), 50 comprehensive food kits of basic necessities (cereals, canned food, oil, and tea), provided by the Lithuanian fund Food for Ukraine, were transferred. Also, 100 packages of sweets were distributed for the children and grandchildren of Sumy journalists.
“For our community, these are not just packages of food. Each such gesture of support is evidence that the work of a journalist is important for Ukraine and our future victory. We are sincerely grateful to our partners for always being there for us in difficult times,” says Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, the head of the Sumy branch of the NUJU, and the head of the JSC.
“For our editorial staff, which was forced to move due to the war, such help is a great help. When you are relocated, every manifestation of care from colleagues and funds gives you the strength to continue working, despite all the difficulties. We feel that we are not left alone with our problems,” says Olha Kyslenko, deputy editor of the Krasnopillia-based newspaper Peremoha (working in evacuation):
“Thank you for the support of our colleagues: both material and moral,” says Vasyl Datsko, a veteran of the media sphere / Honored Journalist of Ukraine.

Kirovohrad Region
For the needs of the Kirovohrad regional organization of the NUJU, 20 sweet sets (dry breakfasts and Nestle chocolate bars) were transferred and distributed. The gifts were presented to the children and grandchildren of local media workers, who warmly thanked the benefactors.
“The Ukrainian Food Banks Federation of Ukraine, together with the NUJU, treats the children of Ukrainian journalists. The children express their gratitude for the care and concern. This is especially important during the war,” notes Petro Melnyk, the head of the Kirovohrad regional organization of the NUJU.

Odesa Region
Journalist families in Odesa received humanitarian support in the form of children’s sweet sets from Nestlé. The organizers of the event noted that these pleasant surprises helped to give the little ones sincere joy and positive emotions in this difficult time.
“Positive emotions were received not only by the children, but also by all participants of the event. In difficult times, even a small amount of help is of great importance – people should not be left alone with their difficulties. The feeling of journalistic brotherhood adds strength and support,” notes journalist Dmytro Bakayev.

Vinnytsia Region
The Vinnytsia regional organization of the NUJU successfully received a large shipment of humanitarian aid from the UFBF. The sweet sets were promptly handed over to journalists in the region for their children and grandchildren.
“Journalists of the Vinnytsia Region were able to please their children and grandchildren – after all, they received sets of sweets for them. Well, we were happy that we could present these sets to colleagues, having received a lot of goods at Nova Poshta! Best wishes and gratitude for your charitable mission from the Vinnytsia Union members!” emphasizes Maryna Teplenko, the Acting Head of the Vinnytsia regional organization of the NUJU.
