“The work of a journalist in Shostka today is a constant balance between professional duty and real danger, because our city shudders every day from air strikes. That is why the safety of media workers is a priority, and I am sincerely grateful to the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) for the three sets of professional protective equipment provided.”
This was reported on her Facebook page by Viktoriya Horshkova, the editor-in-chief of the shostkanews.city website.
Viktoriya Horshkova drew attention to the fact that this assistance came through the newly created the Sumy JSC and became a reliable shield for media workers in the hottest moments of work. She also thanked Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, the head of the Sumy office of the Unified JSC, for supporting Shostka colleagues.
The provided sets of protective equipment were received by the newsrooms of Telecom-Service and Pivnich Media. According to Viktoriya Horshkova, this is necessary so that everyone who records the crimes of the aggressor has a chance to return home unharmed.
“However, the main goal of our journalistic community is mutual assistance, so we are ready to provide this equipment for use to all local colleagues who plan to work in dangerous areas. In these times, solidarity is our greatest strength, which allows the truth to be heard even under shelling,” noted the editor-in-chief of the shostkanews.city website.

The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO, and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.
