In the frontline community, journalism is close to the people

The story of the internship of Anna Kaniuka, a second-year student at the University of Customs and Finance, majoring in Journalism, in the newsroom of Mezhyvskyi Meridian is an example of how the profession remains a service to the community, especially in wartime.

Despite constant shelling, destruction, lack of electricity, and the Internet, thanks to the courage and dedication of the editorial team under the leadership of Yevhen Khrypun, the residents of Mezhova read their native newspaper, maintaining a connection between those who left and those who remained in the community.

“For Anna Kaniuka, this internship was not only a way to gain professional experience (and she did not just work at a computer, but, under safe conditions, directly met with fellow countrymen, recorded interviews), but also to fulfill her civic mission as a journalist,” the Center for Journalism and Media Communications of the University of Customs and Finance tells about its students.

And the student-intern’s article about the life of the residents of the village of Vesele, 18 km from the front line, after the forced evacuation, can be read on the website of Mezhyvskyi Meridian.

We thank our colleagues for their perseverance and mentorship, and the young journalists for choosing this difficult but extremely important profession.
