“Why your newsroom did not win a grant and what could be improved” – such an online webinar, organized by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), took place on December 15. A total of 50 media professionals from all regions of the country joined the event.

The webinar lasted almost two hours. And practically every minute of the speaker, Lina Kushch, First Secretary of NUJU, and Nataliya Voitovych, Co-Coordinator of the United Western Ukrainian Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC), devoted to specific advice and practical recommendations for editorial offices that plan to receive grant funding.

The webinar covered typical mistakes that occur in grant applications and ways to unify them, discussed clear formulation of ideas, goals, and expected results, as well as how to build a project logic so that the grantor shows a desire to support a specific application, how to be convincing, and where to start a grant story.

Special attention was paid to understanding the technical stage of application selection, budgeting, and opportunities for collaboration with more experienced grantees or public organizations as a way to strengthen projects so that grantors see the potential.
