Verkhovna Rada Deputy of Ukraine / Head of the Parliamentary Subcommittee on Information Policy, Yevheniya Kravchuk, has called for increased efforts to return Ukrainian civilians held in russian prisons via her Facebook post.

The deputy quoted the words of human rights activist and citizen journalist from Crimea, Iryna Danylovych, reported from a russian prison: “The world has already shown what it can do to return Ukrainian children. But this is not the time to stop. It is time to show what it can do to return Ukrainian women and elderly people who are being taken to russian prisons.”

Yevheniya Kravchuk called these words a painful and very accurate reminder that behind every name on the lists of prisoners and civilian prisoners is a living person.

“The silence of the world always plays on the side of the aggressor,” the MP emphasized.

For the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, this issue is not an abstract topic. The Temporary Investigative Commission on russia’s Crimes Against the Media and Journalists, headed by Yevheniya Kravchuk, will work, in particular, on the issue of civilians in captivity. The goal is to bring the truth to light, to tell the specific stories, names, and fates of journalists in russian prisons and in the occupied territories.

“They should all be visible. We should return them all,” Kravchuk emphasized.

The MP expressed special gratitude to the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Austrian Parliament, Petra Bayr, for her mentorship in the case of Iryna Danylovych. According to Kravchuk, this is an example of how the personal involvement of a public figure and international attention really help to keep the focus on specific cases and save human lives.
