Since the liberation of the right-bank Kherson Region from the occupiers in November 2022, the newsroom of the Hryvna newspaper has already printed 40 issues with a total circulation of about 500,000 copies.

They were distributed in the territory of the Kherson and Beryslav Districts in the de-occupied communities of the Kherson Region.

February 24, 2022, was the last day of work for the Hryvna newspaper newsroom. It was not even possible to distribute the edition printed on February 23. Almost from the first days of the occupation, the premises of the newsroom were occupied by russians and collaborators. It is important that not a single creative employee of Hryvna go over to the side of the enemy.

In June 2022, the Hryvna website was restored, and on November 27, 2022, the people of Kherson, who had just been liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the occupation but without electricity, water, heat, and communication, already held their Hryvna in their hands.

Hryvna is printed in Zaporizhzhia; editorial staff works from various cities of Ukraine and Europe, several of them are permanently located in Kherson. Distributing the newspaper in communities that are under fire is a task with an “asterisk.” Our employees, together with the employees of local military administrations, do everything possible to ensure that the newspaper reaches the reader.

In January 2023, a rocket hit the premises of the newsroom, destroying the remains of the equipment that the occupants did not have time to steal while fleeing.

The resumption of work was made possible thanks to several international donors and the support of the Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine Association. About twice a month, Kherson residents read the free Hryvna. For many, it is like a breath of air, a moment of returning to a peaceful life when there was no shelling, grief, war, and loved ones were nearby…

Nowadays, newspaper readers are mostly elderly people who do not have access to Internet news, but there is an opportunity to hold in their hands a publication that has been familiar for many years, to receive objective and true information, and sometimes – and practical help in solving urgent problems. After all, since 2024, the operation of the hotline has been restored, where you can talk about your life and get advice and support.

The editors of the Hryvna newspaper will continue to seek funding from foreign media organizations in order to provide informational support to the people of Kherson, to help resist enemy propaganda, and to hold on emotionally for the sake of the Victory of Ukraine.
