Radio Liberty journalist Dmytro Yevchyn, who was wounded near Robotyne yesterday, January 17, was working in a bulletproof vest with the inscription PRESS.

Viyacheslav Skoriak, the head of the public relations service of the 10th Army Corps, which carries out combat missions in the south of Ukraine, reported this in a comment to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

“Dmytro worked in accordance with all current requirements: he was accompanied by a press officer; Dmytro was wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest with a bright white inscription PRESS. I have no evidence that he was deliberately fired at, but in modern warfare, firing is almost never done without drone correction. After all, you need to understand where you are shooting and what the consequences will be. Modern drones are equipped to the level that even in the darkness, they perfectly see everything. I think it was impossible not to see the bright white inscription PRESS. I think they saw it, but it didn’t stop them. This is the most likely development of events.”

Viyacheslav Skoriak added that the presence of the PRESS sign, according to international humanitarian law, should protect, pointing out that such a person is not a combatant. But the laws are not what the Russian Federation stands by.

As earlier reported, Dmytro Yevchyn received a shrapnel wound in the leg as a result of mortar shelling near Robotyne on January 17. The Ukrainian military, together with the operator, gave Dmytro first aid, evacuated him to a stabilization point in a nearby village, and then transported him to a hospital in Zaporizhzhia. According to the doctors, the operation was completed successfully, and Dmytro Yevchyn will remain in intensive care for the time being.
