We welcome the new year with the continuation of the war in several countries of the world and significant cuts in the media industry. The head of the Danish Union of Journalists, Tine Johansen, and her deputy, Allan Boye Thulstrup, emphasize this in their Christmas greetings.
According to them, the war in Gaza on the pages of the media sometimes overshadowed russia’s long war against Ukraine. But while some people’s attention to events in Ukraine may be waning, Ukrainian media professionals are still suffering greatly from the occupation and russian attacks.
Therefore, the Danish Union of Journalists decided to provide financial assistance to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) to support colleagues with the most necessary. The funds will be spent on direct financial support of injured journalists, assistance to journalists who need evacuation or resettlement, and urgent assistance in case of damage to editorial offices.
“Media workers in Ukraine were and remain very burdened by many needs,” says Allan Boye Thulstrup. “Many of them have lost their means of livelihood but are still trying to convey news to the population, including through the printed word. Therefore, it is important that we can support our colleagues in Ukraine directly through this donation.”
