Chernivtsi JSC tells journalists how to become entrepreneurs

Training for female journalists was dedicated to the start of entrepreneurial activity. It took place at the Chernivtsi Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) with the assistance of the Synerhiya Public Activity Center.

This topic has become important for journalists because, quite often, media workers happen to resign or their newsrooms shut down. So, unable to find a place to get a job, journalists work as freelancers or bloggers. In this way, they earn money for themselves and their families in order to somehow survive in the conditions of war and difficult economic situation.

“Recently, control over the payment of taxes has become somewhat stricter. Therefore, in order to legally receive what you have earned, make some calculations, and think about expanding your activity, you should register as an individual entrepreneur,” believes Nataliya Batrakova, the executive director of the Synerhiya Public Activity Center.

Training participants learned how to start their own business and how to generate business ideas based on the local needs of residents of territorial communities. It turns out that despite the already chosen profession and established work or creativity, there are still many free niches in the current spheres of life. It was agreed that the primary basis should be analysis, calculation, and constant control over the process.

During the training, the journalists received the basic advice that successful entrepreneurs give to those who want to open their own business:

• Find a smart accountant. Competent execution of calculations and orientation in the legislative and tax base is needed as it will take you years to get to know what to do. A professional in his field will quickly put the paperwork in order so the money spent on accounting services will not be wasted.
• Get legal advice. Preventive legal support can be the best means of successful entrepreneurship and long-term success. After all, if you call a lawyer already after encountering a problem, it may be too late to fix something. And this, in turn, can have a critical impact on business both in the short and long term.
• Plan the future. In work, it is important to see the ways of development of business after its launch. You need to develop a vision of how you are going to make a profit for at least two or three years. It is worth determining the best and worst scenarios for business development based on sales and profit forecasts. And such a plan is very important in order to convince the right people that it is safe to work with you.
