The signing of the memorandum between the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the PATRIOT GROUP non-governmental organization on cooperation in the search for missing persons took place at a press conference room of the Ukrinform news agency yesterday.

The event was attended by the President of the NUJU, Sergiy Tomilenko; the First Secretary of the NUJU, Lina Kushch; public figure Oleh Kotenko, the head of the PATRIOT GROUP, Eleonora Kotenko, human rights defender, former prisoner, Liudmyla Huseinova.

“The memorandum will be aimed at helping families and those who have gone missing under special circumstances. We are combining the efforts of two organizations to draw public attention to this topic,” Lina Kushch emphasized.

Oleh Kotenko noted that cooperation with the NUJU is very necessary. He recalled that the current scheme regarding prisoners is as follows: the more people talk about a person, the more chances that the occupiers will keep them longer, so it is necessary to cover this topic very carefully.

In turn, Liudmyla Huseinova recalled some women who have been in captivity since 2017, and the media and society have no right to remain silent about them.

“This is an important declaration, which we will implement in practice with joint efforts, attract the attention of the mass media so that we keep this important topic in the field of view, and to congratulate our released Ukrainians on freedom every day,” said Sergiy Tomilenko after signing the document.
