The President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Sergiy Tomilenko, and his colleagues discussed the security of media workers in the conditions of russia’s war against Ukraine, emergency assistance to Ukrainian journalists, and the attraction of funds from international donors for the Ukrainian media sector while visiting the headquarters of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

“Secretaries general of the federations Anthony Belanger (IFJ) and Ricardo Gutiérrez (EFJ) express full solidarity with Ukrainian journalists,” says Sergiy Tomilenko. “Thanks to the powerful support of journalist federations, which include the NUJU, the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers works effectively in Ukraine. This “hotline” has helped thousands of journalists since April last year and continues to support colleagues in these difficult times.”

The President of the NUJU thanked the management and employees of the headquarters of both federations, reported on the work of the NUJU over the past two years, and urged to continue to keep Ukraine in the focus of these two authoritative and the world’s largest journalist associations.

It was emphasized that the support of the NUJU for the revival of local newspapers in the frontline and de-occupied territories is an important priority for the EFJ and IFJ.

Tonight, in Brussels, Sergiy Tomilenko, together with his colleagues, opens the photo exhibition titled Ukraine: Journalists in War Zones to draw the attention of diplomats, representatives of international organizations, and the media to the work of courageous and dedicated journalists in Ukraine, to call for russia to be held accountable for war crimes against journalists and freedom of speech.
