The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) invites media workers to join the roundtable to discuss journalistic activities during the war. Besides, the Union will also present the large-scale project titled Executed Free Speech, which is an overview of the situation with russian attacks on media workers since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The project team recorded video stories of over 100 journalists who fell victim to or became eyewitnesses of war crimes committed by russia. Those are media workers from Kherson, Mariupol, Melitopol, Bucha, Kharkiv, Bakhmut, and other “hot spots.” Some video stories will be available for viewing and discussion during the meetings.

We invite you to join the events that will take place:

  • On September 5 at 11 a.m. in Zaporizhzhia,

  • On September 6 at 10 a.m. in Dnipro.

The NUJU maintains a list of journalists killed since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion; those who were in russian captivity. The Union also monitors cases of destruction of property and editorial buildings, persecution of Crimean Tatar citizen journalists in occupied Crimea, and other important topics.

“Only our unity will help us to resist, defeat and punish the enemy. For every committed war crime, the guilty representatives of the aggressor country must be brought to justice,” emphasizes Sergiy Tomilenko, the President of the NUJU.

Speakers:

  • Lina Kushch, the First Secretary of the NUJU;
  • Tetiana Uralova, a journalist safety expert of the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers of the NUJU and a displaced journalist from Mariupol.

During the meeting, participants will:

  • discuss the issue of russian attacks on media workers;
  • hear testimony from a rescued journalist from the Donetsk Region, who is currently communicating with eyewitnesses of russian war crimes;
  • watch video stories of journalists who suffered during a large-scale war.
