On July 15, soldier Maksym Shvartsman, a photo correspondent of the Chernivtsi media agency ACC, was killed during an offensive battle on the Bakhmut axis.

Maksym joined the army as a volunteer, signing up for the Chernivtsi Territorial Defense Unit the day after the start of the full-scale aggression. His native village of Kalanchak, in the Kherson Region, was occupied, which Maksym could not accept.

“He was exceptionally benevolent and friendly, but at the same time modest. He didn’t like publicity. He could brag about his photo works to his friends during a corporate party, but holding exhibitions or putting his photos on the Internet was not for Maksym. He did not even have a page on Facebook,” the head of ACC, Oksana Danyliuk, said in a comment to the information service of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).

Maksym is survived by his wife Maryna, also a journalist, and two small children – a boy and a girl.

The farewell ceremony will take place at the Alley of Glory of the Central Cemetery of Chernivtsi on Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m.

The NUJU sincerely mourns the death of the Hero. Eternal memory! We express our condolences to the relatives and friends.
