Representatives of Reporters Without Borders Chloe Vernet and Gauthier Selva met with Ukrainian journalists who had left the occupied territories at the central office of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) on Tuesday.

The representatives of the international human rights organization were most interested in the current needs of Ukrainian media workers.

Journalists, in particular, talked about the obstacles they had to overcome to continue their professional activities, the methods of communication with colleagues who remain under occupation, and the security measures they have to resort to.

The delegates also discussed with the leaders of the Union the formats of expanding cooperation in support of Ukrainian journalists.

At the meeting with the representatives of Reporters without Borders, the Editor-in-chief of the Kherson city website, Kavun.City, Yevheniya Virlych, emphasized that “there should be more media solidarity,“ and the issue of journalists under occupation must be discussed more extensively.

“Acquaintances all over Ukraine say that they hear information about the situation in the territories under occupation and the shelling of Kherson mostly from me… They know [about this] in Poland because there are many of our people there, and their number is lower in other countries,” she noted.

Yevheniya also said that it was possible to resume professional activities after the occupation of part of the Kherson Region, thanks to the NUJU‘s help. And unless the Ukrainian troops liberate the entire territory of the country, the media will need support, she noted.
