The press center of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) hosted the ceremony of announcement of the results of the contest on April 28.
This year, the contest, which traditionally attracts schools, college, and technical school students, opened its doors for 808 participants from all regions of Ukraine, its capital, and 12 other countries.
The Grand Prix, a brand-new laptop from the NUJU and the Academy of Ukrainian Press, went to Oleksandr Kononenko, a student of the Exemplary Art Team of the School of Journalism classes of the Regional Art House of the Mykolayiv Regional Council. Oleksandr is a first-year student of the Separate Structural Unit of Mykolayiv Construction College of the Kyiv National University of Civil Engineering.
Addressing the contest winners and their mentors, First Secretary of the NUJU Lina Kushch told the young media people about the Journalists’ Solidarity Centers (JSC) work and invited high school students to visit them in their regions. She also noted that the JSCs can offer students communication with journalists, master classes, trainings, etc.
Andrii Kovalenko, the executive director of the Academy of Ukrainian Press, drew young media workers’ attention to the profession’s peculiarities.
He said that journalism is not a profession but a lifestyle. Therefore, it will not be easy, but it will definitely be interesting. “After all, you will be able to shape public opinion, tell people the truth,” he said.
Reference information. The I am a journalist! all-Ukrainian contest has been conducted as a social responsibility project since 2009. Founded by journalist Vitalii Holubiev, the contest was born in Rivne, and in 2016, it became an all-Ukrainian one. Its participants from all regions of Ukraine send works, photos, and videos based on the topics determined by the organizers. Awarding of winners traditionally takes place in Kyiv at the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
