“The journalists were working at a meeting of the executive committee and preparing for the next shoot when they heard an explosion,” Iryna Pavliutina, the director of Pryluky TV channel, who was at the epicenter of the incident, tells the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU).
This morning, russian troops struck Pryluky with drones, three explosions were heard in the city. The city council building was damaged as a result of the shelling. According to official information, at least 15 people were injured, one person is in serious condition.
The journalists were not injured. However, the equipment (camera, microphone) could not be saved – immediately after the attack, people were leaving the damaged building, and media workers helped.
From the very first minutes, journalists began filming the aftermath of the strike on their smartphones and within an hour of the incident went live with operational information for the Pryluky residents.
According to Iryna Pavliutina, despite the destruction of the equipment, journalists are actively working today – reporting on events, taking comments from experts, etc., using their own equipment.
“In the town of Pryluky, as in the entire Chernihiv Region, it is very difficult due to constant UAV attacks. But we are already used to it,” she states.
Iryna Pavliutyna also said that the Pryluky TV channel is the only one in the region that has not suspended broadcasting since the beginning of the full-scale invasion:
“We went on the air at 7 am on February 24 and did not stop working for an hour, submitting up to 10 information materials every day. Our biggest problem now is with staff: there are not enough people….”
