The project of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) titled Strengthening the Resilience of Front-line Media as a Tool for Combating Disinformation became the winner of the competitive selection of the Lithuanian Cooperation Program for the Development and Promotion of Democracy. The corresponding Agreement on Cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine was signed by the President of the NUJU, Sergiy Tomilenko.

During the meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė, and the Embassy team, Sergiy Tomilenko presented the stories of Ukrainian journalists and raised the topic of war crimes committed by the Russian Federation against media workers. “For thousands of Ukrainians, local newspapers in Orikhiv, Kherson, Snihurivka, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk Regions are not only a source of information, but also a marker of Ukrainian presence and resilience. That is why supporting such newsrooms is one of the basic priorities of the Union,” said the NUJU President.

The implementation of the Strengthening the Resilience of Front-line Media as a Tool for Combating Disinformation project will last five months.

It includes:

  • a training course for journalists from front-line regions;
  • a study of the information needs of communities;
  • a practical guide to countering disinformation;
  • a mini-forum of editors and joint events with Lithuanian colleagues.

The selection of participants from front-line media will be announced in the near future.

The project is funded by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine within the framework of the Cooperation Program for the Development and Promotion of Democracy.
