Ukrainian war correspondents demand the authorities to cancel censorship of the war and the lists with “their” journalists

More than ten well-known Ukrainian war correspondents have recorded a video message in which they spoke out against the excessive number of obstacles to access to information.

The appeal was published by Maryan Kushnir, the war correspondent for RFE/RL. Other authors are journalists of TSN, Inter, ICTV, “5 Kanal” (Channel 5) and other`s media, who also published this appeal.

The video discusses the fact that on these days the authorities announced the creation of a “traffic light” system in the war zone: separation of settlements by color, and with the “red zone” – areas from Vugledar to Avdiivka, Siversk and Bakhmut, where media work is prohibited.

“Just a few days after that, we learned that there is the list of media to which the authorities allow to cover events even in the “red zone”. The surnames and names of “their” media workers were “added” to the list. And we – those who are on the so-called list and those who did not get to it – are protesting” the post says.

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine supports the right of war correspondents to fair access to work at the frontline and calls on the military command and representatives of the state authorities to find a compromise when implementing new rules for military accreditation.
