The President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Sergiy Tomilenko, commented on the air of TRC First Western on the situation with the arrest of the pseudo-activist Ostap Stakhiv, who was selling “journalism” courses and issuing allegedly official professional certificates.

“This is really a fraud. We welcome the work of law enforcement officers in this direction and call for stricter punishment of all those who abuse the status of journalists!” notes Sergiy Tomilenko.

According to him, it is necessary to fight against the attempts of outsiders to obtain such status for purposes that are completely unrelated to decent professional journalism.

“Real media professionals are ready to argue why they need these powers: they openly collect information and adhere to the code of ethics,” Sergiy Tomilenko notes. “The Union has self-regulation mechanisms, revokes membership for violation of the statute, and protects those colleagues who work honestly in the profession.”
