The rector of the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Andrii Cherniak, visited the central office of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). During the meeting with the President of the NUJU, Sergiy Tomilenko, topical issues of information security and cooperation between the journalistic community and national security specialists were discussed.

Sergiy Tomilenko introduced the guest to the activities of the Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) network and presented two NUJU photo exhibitions called Journalists In The War Zone and Flashes Of War, which are exhibited in the conference hall of the Union.

Special attention was paid to the issue of recording russia’s war crimes against journalists and the media. The NUJU is counting on the professional help of teachers of the SSU Academy in the investigation of such cases as the shelling by the russians of the editorial office of the only local radio station in Nikopol – Nostalzhi Radio, as well as in the cases of the captured journalists Iryna Levchenko, Dmytro Khyliuk, and Serhii Tsyhipa.

Rector of the SSU Academy Andrii Cherniak presented a number of Academy publications to the library of the Union, including Recommendations and Best Cases of Implementation of Strategic Communications in Conditions of War and Subversion and Intelligence Activities of Russian Special Services. Especially symbolic is the giving of the book called Ukrainian Language. The journey from Bad Ems to Strasbourg by Orysia Demska, whose publishing house (Vivat, Kharkiv) came under enemy missile attack in May.

– The contribution of journalists to the resistance to russian aggression cannot be overestimated. The information front is key in modern warfare, and we highly value the professionalism and courage of Ukrainian media workers, Andrii Chernyak emphasized.

In turn, Sergiy Tomilenko presented the book Empire of Terror by NUJU Secretary Serhii Shevchenko to the rector and introduced him to the Union‘s initiatives to revive front-line newspapers.

– The Union of Journalists is counting on the expert support of the SSU Academy specialists. Our cooperation is an important step in strengthening Ukraine’s information security, Sergiy Tomilenko said.

During the meeting, an agreement was also reached on holding joint events. In particular, the SSU Academy is scheduled to screen the documentary film On The Frontier created by the NUJU. The movie tells the story of Vasyl Miroshnyk, a courageous editor from a front-line area of the Kharkiv Region.

Such cooperation between the NUJU and the SSU Academy is an important step in strengthening the informational stability of Ukraine and supporting journalists working in war conditions.
