A memorial to famous Ukrainian theater and cinema actor, voiceover specialist, and TV presenter Pavlo Lee was opened today near where Russian bullets killed him in Irpin, Kyiv Region.

The honorable mission of opening the memorial sign was performed by Pavlo’s mother, Mariya Lee, and Irpin Town Mayor, Oleksandr Markushyn.

“Today, we are unveiling this memorial, erected on his mother’s and many other people’s initiative. Of course, we supported this initiative,” Oleksandr Markushyn said. “Pavlo worked in our volunteer headquarters; he was an excellent volunteer and eager to help people. He had a very good heart. He was killed helping people.”

Mariya Lee thanked everyone who helped raise funds for the monument to Pavlo, who stood by her side during a difficult time.

From the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, Pavlo Lee had worked in the volunteer headquarters of the Irpin City Council. On March 6, 2022, the car he was driving with two other volunteers was fired at by Russian soldiers from a machine gun near Central Park at the intersection of Universytetska and Pushkinska Streets. Pavlo’s friends survived, but he did not.

By the decree of the President of Ukraine dated June 6, 2022, Pavlo Lee, on the recommendation of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), was awarded the Order For Courage III degree (posthumously) on the occasion of Journalist’s Day.

According to Sergiy Tomilenko, the President of the NUJU, the death of Pavlo Lee caused the most inquiries from foreign colleagues regarding the circumstances of the tragedies of that period. “We were approached by the French, Argentines, and Americans,” he recalls. “Then, we did not know the truth about Pavlo’s death. But it is important to establish the true story of each of our fallen colleagues, maintain their memory, and provide assistance to their loved ones.”

Read about the last days and circumstances of Pavel Lee’s death in a special study by the press service of the NUJU:
