An important conversation about the role of journalists in the war took place on November 8 in Warsaw, in the iconic human rights location WITRYNA Domu Wschodniego.

Polish colleagues were impressed by the documentary called On The Frontier. The Heroic Story of the Journalist from the Front-Line Newspaper, prepared by the information service of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). They frankly admitted that despite their considerable experience in covering war journalism, they learned for the first time about the unique phenomenon of front-line local press in Ukraine.

“The main hero of the tape is Vasyl Myroshnyk, the heroic editor of the Zoria newspaper from the Kharkiv Region near the front. Through his story, the world will learn about the incredible role of local media in supporting Ukrainian communities on the front lines,” said NUJU President Sergiy Tomilenko, who presented the film to the audience.

During the discussion, special attention was paid to russian propaganda as part of the military offensive. They emphasized the importance of solidarity with imprisoned journalists – a topic that requires the constant attention of the international community.

“Unfortunately, we have to admit that people are getting used to war in Ukraine. Even our closest neighbors. That is why we need to strengthen international ties and make even more efforts to keep attention on Ukraine at a time when the world is switching to other conflicts,” added Sergiy Tomilenko.
