According to the non-governmental organization, Crimean Solidarity, citizen journalist Remzi Bekirov, who was sentenced to 19 years in prison, has been taken out of the Krasnoyarsk remand prison in russia and is being transferred to Correctional Colony 33, which is located in the capital of the Republic of Khakassia, the city of Abakan. He wrote about this in a letter to the wife of Khalide Bekirova, whom he was able to send during his stay in Pre-Trial Detention Center 2 in Abakan.

As earlier reported by the information service of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), on July 5, convict Remzi Bekirov was taken from Prison 2 of Yeniseysk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, to the transit transfer point in Krasnoyarsk.

Remzi Bekirov was able to provide some details. On August 4, the political prisoner was staged from Krasnoyarsk in a Stolypin-times railcar. This car is specially designed for the transportation of convicts and arrested persons. Inside it are iron bars and small cells with narrow benches. Such cars often lack ventilation and light, and people describe the sanitary conditions as unsatisfactory. The journalist noted that after he was “searched and loaded onto the train,” “there were many adventures on the way.” Already in the morning, he was in Abakan. Here, Bekirov will stay in the remand prison for three to six days. Then, he will be sent to Correctional Colony 33.

“This is a regime camp with its own characteristics. Apparently, russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service does not want to send me closer to Crimea,” Remzi complained to his wife. He said that while he is being transferred, he does not receive news from her. However, he sent his regards to his relatives and “to all who remember.”

As earlier reported, Remzi Bekirov is a citizen journalist who conducted a series of searches and trials in politically motivated cases against the residents of Crimea, in particular in the Vedzhie Kashka case, the detention of the UOC priest Kliment, in Hizb ut-Tahrir and others cases. Remzi Bekirov is the initiator of the idea of collective assistance to the families of Crimean political prisoners. Has three minor children. The NUJU website repeatedly wrote about Remzi Bekirov, and the NUJU itself has repeatedly demanded that russia drop all charges against Remzi Bekirov and ensure his freedom.

On March 10, 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Bekirov to 19 years in prison in the falsified Hizb ut-Tahrir case.
