The Ukrainian Association of Media Business (UAMB) announces the start of a new project for local media called Support Of Local Independent Media In Ukraine During The War. This project is implemented by the UAMB as part of UNESCO‘s general strategy for the communication and information sector in Ukraine, financed by Japan.
The project is mainly aimed at increasing the effectiveness of local mass media as modern platforms for developing communities and solving their problems.
This project aims to support mass media working at the local level. War does not eliminate the need for community development. On the contrary, it creates new challenges that are easier to overcome when communities have effective platforms for communication between different groups of people.
The media to be selected for the project should first focus on solving priority problems in communities through their discussion, including humanitarian ones, and a joint search for solutions. And the media that will implement these projects should be the ‘driver’ and ‘platform’ for these discussions and coordination of efforts within the communities. Also, the application must show how the implementation of the projects will contribute to expanding the audience of local media, how much it will enhance citizens’ involvement in the dialogue, show how honest and verified information can help fight misinformation and fake news, and in what way it will transform the newsrooms of local media on multimedia communication platforms.
The project’s implementation period must not exceed five months, and the total amount of the grant should not exceed UAH 80,000.
Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2022.
Average budget structure:
(1) 50% of the total budget is supposed to be the salary of those involved in the implementation of the project,
(2) 20% goes for the purchase of equipment,
(3) 30% makes direct production costs for newspaper printing, video editing, article creation, layout, etc.
