Despite the large-scale losses suffered by the Ukrainian media sphere as a result of russian aggression, the direction of restoring the Ukrainian media space remains insufficiently represented on the international stage.
This was emphasized by the People’s Deputy of Ukraine / Chair of the PACE Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, Yevheniya Kravchuk, during a meeting in Vienna with the leadership of the International Press Institute (IPI) — Executive Director Scott Griffen and Director of Advocacy Amy Brouillette. The negotiations were held with the participation of People’s Deputy Mykyta Poturayev on the eve of the winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The parties agreed to jointly prepare a thematic report and increase international attention to the situation with Ukrainian journalists. The work of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the investigation of russian crimes against journalists, headed by Yevheniya Kravchuk, plans to change this situation and attract new partners to rebuild the country’s media infrastructure.
In parallel, in Kyiv, deputies Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Dmytro Slynko, and Tetiana Tsyba met with representatives of the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF). During a several-day visit, international experts had the opportunity to see firsthand the working conditions of Ukrainian journalists.
The Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada, headed by Yevheniya Kravchuk, has identified international advocacy as one of its key priorities from the very beginning of its work. The goal is to ensure that the topics of the safety of journalists, crimes against them, and the destruction of the media infrastructure are systematically raised on the platforms of international organizations.
The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) consistently and systematically defends the position on the need to include the restoration of the media in the general programs for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
