The Director General of the international non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Thibaut Bruttin, has called for exposing and prosecuting russian propaganda facilitators.
He said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
On the path to confronting russian propaganda, the RSF head stressed the need to raise public awareness of the importance of identifying sources of disinformation.
“We need to expose people, understand narratives, and understand budgets. We need to change the logic. We shouldn’t waste time on them (entering into discussions with them – ed.). We need to prosecute them,” Bruttin emphasized.
He added that he hopes to bring to justice at the national and international levels “the leaders of the russian federation who deliberately implemented this (disinformation – ed.) strategy.”
“And I hope that one day we will hold them accountable. But the leaders of the propaganda – (Vladimir – ed.) Solovyov, (Margarita – ed.) Simonyan and other intermediaries – must also be held accountable,” Bruttin stressed.
The head of RSF is convinced that “these people bear a great responsibility for the destruction of Ukraine, for promoting aggression and war, for trying to reduce support for democracy in Europe.”
He stressed that “russian war correspondents” are only a tool of propaganda and “are not journalists.”
“Our organization is demanding in this vision of what journalism is. We support independent journalism. We support people who distance themselves from war narratives,” Bruttin said.
“It’s important to say that russia is putting pressure on the international level to try to include people from RT, people from Sputnik on the list of journalists who died in combat, which outrages us; we oppose it,” said the head of Reporters Without Borders.
