The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution in connection with systematic crimes against journalists and media workers. The parliament appealed to the UN, parliaments and governments of EU and NATO member states, the European Parliament, and specialized journalist associations with a call to increase pressure on russia.
The resolution provides:
- expansion of personal sanctions against individuals involved in the persecution, torture, and murder of journalists;
- introduction of additional sanctions against the russian federation and states that cooperate with it and support its terrorist regime;
- restriction of access of the russian state and propaganda media to international information platforms;
- strengthening control over compliance with international information security standards.
The Verkhovna Rada also calls on international institutions to intensify efforts to release and return to Ukraine all journalists and media workers illegally detained by the russian federation, as well as to facilitate the documentation and investigation of crimes committed against media representatives, LB reports.
