The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) received a batch of special vests, intended exclusively for the clear visual identification of media representatives during the coverage of mass and other events, from the Japanese donor Jun’ichi Kowaka. Note that these vests are not protective equipment but only identify journalists who work as reporters at mass events in a safe environment. Anyone who needs such a means of identification to perform their professional work can contact the Dnipro Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC).
One such vest has already been received by journalists from the newsroom of the Krynychany newspaper Novi Rubezhi.
“Jun’ichi Kowaka is not the first to show solidarity with Ukrainian journalists in this way,” says Nataliya Nazarova, the coordinator of the Dnipro JSC of the NUJU. “Last year, for example, when we were experiencing long power outages, he sent flashlights and key chains with special backlighting. He gave toys to our children, who are actively involved in the Union’s art initiatives. Vitamins, tea, sweet candies, even medical masks – such a manifestation of attention and care from the Japanese friend is actually very valuable!”
Special thanks to the Humanitarian Nova Poshta, which provided free delivery of the cargo to Dnipro.
Earlier, we reported that the Zaporizhzhia JSC received the same vests.
The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.
Contact the Dnipro JSC at 050 919 8479 (Nataliya Nazarova, the coordinator of the Dnipro JSC). The Center’s address is 8 Starokozatska Street.
