In six years of investigating the case of the intentional murder of journalist Vadym Komarov from Cherkasy, the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy Region has never found his killers.

This was reported to the ZMINA publication in response to a request to the National Police.

“Unfortunately, the measures taken have not yet been able to identify the person or persons who committed this crime or were involved in its commission, as well as the motives for the crime,” the response to the request says.

Moreover, according to the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, during the investigation of this case, no one was suspected of committing the crime and was neither detained nor taken into custody.

It should be noted that the police have been conducting a pre-trial investigation into this case since May 4, 2019, into the intentional murder of journalist Vadym Komarov in Cherkasy, where he was found with head injuries from which he later died in hospital.

According to the police, during the pre-trial investigation, a total of 2,002 people considered witnesses in the case were questioned. A number of searches were also conducted on individuals being investigated for involvement in the crime, and 35 forensic examinations were ordered and conducted on traces, items, and other objects seized during the investigation.

Additionally, the police installed and reviewed the video recordings from approximately 100 surveillance cameras along the route of journalist Vadym Komarov.

Currently, the police continue to verify the previously put forward versions of the intentional murder of the journalist, in particular, out of revenge for professional journalistic activities, on the basis of suddenly arising hostile relations, and with the aim of taking possession of the victim’s property.

As earlier reported, Vadym Komarov was brutally beaten by unknown persons on May 4, 2019. According to doctors, the journalist was hit on the head with a hammer, which practically damaged a third of his brain. A month and a half after the attack, Komarov died without regaining consciousness.

The police initially opened a criminal case under the article “Intentional grievous bodily harm,” but later reclassified the case under articles 15 and 115 (attempted intentional murder). Investigators worked out three versions of Komarov‘s murder: professional activities, a sudden quarrel with an unidentified person, and murder for selfish motives.

After the death of Vadym Komarov, the police released a photo of the alleged attacker of the journalist, and later, identified a person who may have been involved in the murder.

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) demands a full and comprehensive investigation into the murder of Vadym Komarov and other journalists who became victims of attackers simply because they honestly did their job. Those guilty of the murder must be appropriately punished!

Journalists are important!
