Zaporizhzhia continues to suffer from enemy shelling. During the night, russian troops attacked the city twice. This morning, the newsroom of the Motor Sich newspaper, the oldest corporate publication in the Zaporizhzhia Region (95 years old), was destroyed. The explosive wave broke windows, the ceiling is in a state of disrepair, and equipment was damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

“Five large boxes of glass and other garbage were collected from the newspaper’s newsroom,” said Olha Lebedeva, the head of the Corporate Media Department of the Motor Sich joint-stock company.

According to Olha, at the time of arrival, no one was in the newsroom, and there were no casualties. However, the journalists currently have no electricity or internet: “We are not giving up; we are rallying, and our small team of 5 people is already preparing the next issue of the newspaper.”

At the moment, 45 people are known to have been injured as a result of the attack, among them a two-month-old baby. One man was killed.

Journalists from local and all-Ukrainian media outlets arrived at the landing site before dawn to cover the consequences of russian aggression. Anastasiya Potapenko, a correspondent for Suspilne.Zaporizhzhia, arrived at 6 a.m. to promptly report on the progress of the liquidation of the consequences of the landings in live broadcasts.

Let us remind you that the Zaporizhzhia Journalists’ Solidarity Center has a permanent coworking space. The Center has everything necessary for journalists to work. If necessary, media workers can always work in the coworking space.

The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.

Call the Zaporizhzhia JSC at 096 277 5352 (Nataliya Kuzmenko and Valentyna Manzhura, coordinators of the Zaporizhzhia JSC). The Center’s address is 152 Sobornyi Avenue.
