The Bukovyna Kish [Union] of the Ukrainian Cossacks and the Chernivtsi Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) have organized and held a roundtable titled Role Of Media During Anti-russia War For Liberation Of Ukraine at the Local History Museum in Chernivtsi. Such events have already become traditional.
Participants of the roundtable were displaced journalists, representatives of local media, and students of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.
According to the head of the regional organization of the NUJU, Volodymyr Bober, today, even the emergence of such concepts as “information war” and “information security” indicates not only the close connection of the media with conflict situations and war but also that in modern armed confrontations, the struggle in the information field is no less important than the direct conduct of military operations. In modern conditions, the media can act as a tool for waging information war and as a subject for ensuring the protection of the information space.
“We see how russia has been conducting its informational expansion on Ukraine and Ukrainians for many years, so we are convinced that it is necessary to strengthen our media. This is especially relevant today when editorial offices of newspapers and television and radio companies have great financial difficulties and are on the verge of survival. There is already such a trend: if someone does not support and strengthen their information space, they will later be forced to read newspapers in a foreign language, listen to foreign music, and study foreign history,” noted Colonel-General of the Ukrainian Cossacks Vasyl Moisa.
Call the Chernivtsi JSC at 068 286 3706 (Volodymyr Bober, the Chernivtsi JSC coordinator). The Center’s address is 96 Nezalezhnosti Avenue.
