New information about journalist Dmytro Khyliuk, who was kidnapped in the Kyiv Region by the Russian military, was made public in a report by the international human rights organization Reporters Without Borders.

According to the latest information received by Reporters Without Borders, the UNIAN journalist, who was kidnapped in Ukraine by the Russian military in the Kyiv Region in March 2022, is alive and staying in prison in the Volodymyr Region of Russia. According to Reporters Without Borders, Khyliuk is being held either in correctional colony 7 near Kovrov or in correctional colony 6 in Melekhovo.

“By holding a Ukrainian journalist, who has not committed any crime, in prison, Russia continues to defy the Geneva Convention. The use of civilians as war booty for information extraction or brainwashing adds to the long list of atrocities committed since the beginning of the war. Dmytro Khyliuk is currently a state hostage. He should be released unconditionally,” the report quoted the head of Reporters Without Borders’ investigation department, Arnaud Froger.
