Overnight into Sunday, during a russian drone attack in Dnipro, the premises of the Dnipropetrovsk regional organization of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the left-bank office of the NUJU’s Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) were damaged. The blast wave broke windows, damaged frames, and caused damage to part of the property.

The newsrooms of the Visti Prydniproviya newspaper, the Dnipro Inform media, and the Novyny Pidhorodne media, located in the same complex, as well as the premises of the Dnipro Press Club non-governmental organization, were also damaged.

It is especially unfortunate that just the other day, renovations were completed in the office premises occupied by the journalistic organization and JSC to create comfortable and safe working conditions for media workers.

“In fact, we have just completed the creation of a media hub – a space that was to become a working base for relocated newsrooms, as well as a co-working space where journalists, including foreign ones, could work,” comments Oleksii Kovalchuk, the chairperson of the Board of the Dnipropetrovsk regional organization of the NUJU. “We have just prepared special premises for temporary storage of archives, places for editorial teams that are forced to move, and equipped work areas for media workers. We haven’t even had time to arrange the chairs yet – and this attack happened here. Now, my colleagues and I are recording the extent of the damage and are taking operational actions to restore the work of the journalistic center.”

After each enemy strike, the JSC team monitors the situation to provide prompt assistance to colleagues.

“We are always close to those whose newsrooms or homes have been affected by russian attacks,” adds JSC coordinator Nataliya Nazarova. “But this time it so happened that we ourselves, our left-bank space of JSC, have already been affected. Despite all this, we continue to work and help, because supporting journalists in such moments is critically important.”

The President of the NUJU, Sergiy Tomilenko, expressed support for his colleagues in Dnipro. He assured that the Union, with the support of international partners, will provide emergency assistance to those affected by today’s attack.

Let’s stick together. We will win. We will rebuild. Journalists are important!
