Today in Strasbourg, the international conference titled Protection of Journalists- a Multistakeholder Dialogue opened in the Palace of Europe on October 29.

Lina Kushch, the First Secretary of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), and Svitlana Zalizetska, a journalist from Melitopol, are taking part in the conference.

This is the first in a series of events within the framework of the Council of Europe campaign on the safety of journalists, Journalists Matter. It brings together key concerned parties to strengthen the protection of press freedom and the safety of journalists

The main topics that to be discussed at the conference are:

 

  • Strengthening security measures during crises, elections, and conflicts;

 

  • Legislative framework and its implementation;

 

  • Gender approaches to the protection of female journalists;

 

  • Best practices and cooperation protocols.

 

The participants in the event will open the photo exhibition called Executed Freedom of Speech, dedicated to captured journalists (author – Yevhen Zinchenko). The photo exhibition was organized by the NUJU with the support of the Swedish human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders.
