Volodymyr Siedov, 68, the editor-in-chief of the Visti Ananiyivshchyny newspaper (Odesa Region), is being transferred to outpatient treatment from the hospital – he is undergoing a course of therapy in connection with a brain concussion and broken fingers.

As earlier reported, on July 12, right on the street of his native town of Ananiyiv, he was attacked by a person he does remember. Volodymyr Siedov connects the beating with his journalistic activities, in particular, covering corruption at the town council and the criminal activities of a local criminal group.

According to the fact of the attack on Volodymyr Siedov, the investigators entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations on the grounds of Section 2 of Article 345-1 (threat or violence against a journalist) of the Penal Code of Ukraine.

“My beating is far from being the first one in Ananiyiv. I think it’s the same gang. But the previous cases have not been brought to court,” Volodymyr Siedov said in a comment for the NUJU. “But I hired a lawyer and will insist on punishing the guilty, especially since I have been threatened before, including directly at the workplace. I will not give up and insist on bringing the guilty to justice.”

The NUJU is closely monitoring the case of the beating of Volodymyr Siedov. We hope it will be quickly investigated, and the guilty will be brought to justice.
