Ukrainian photojournalist Heorhii Ivanchenko, who was wounded at the front on October 3 while performing his professional duties, had his leg amputated. This was reported by his friend and colleague, photographer Olha Kovaliova.
“While working on the front line, Heorhii was seriously injured, lost much blood, and doctors were forced to amputate his leg. Ahead is a series of operations, long-term rehabilitation, and prosthetics. We are raising funds for urgent treatment, postoperative care, and rehabilitation. Any amount matters,” she wrote on Facebook.

As Olha Kovaliova noted, Heorhii was by her side when she and her colleague Vladyslav Krasnoshchok were wounded on the front in the Donetsk Region in 2024.
“A man who saved me more than once — literally. After my injury, he was there every day. When it was the worst, he helped me get through every day, supported me, lifted me, and didn’t let me break down,” the photographer said.
As earlier reported, on October 3, near Druzhkivka, Donetsk Region, an enemy drone attacked a Ukrainian photographer and a French journalist who were working together with the press officer. The strike killed French journalist Antoni Lallican, and Ukrainian photographer Heorhii Ivanchenko was seriously injured.
