“If a few years ago it was not very relevant, today the situation has changed, FPV drones are flying everywhere. So, a drone detector is very necessary for our journalists, because they are physically in a dangerous zone, and this is the border area. For us, it is simply a must-have,” Roman Rybak, the editor-in-chief of Pivnich Media from the Sumy Region, commented on the need for newsrooms to have drone detectors to the NUJU information service on the sidelines of the expert discussion “Journalism in the conditions of drone attacks: safety, support and professional solidarity”, which took place at the central office of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). Let us remind you that the network of the NUJU’s Journalists’ Solidarity Centers (JSC) has been replenished with a new batch of Chuika drone detectors from the Ukrainian manufacturer BlueBird Tech.
The Sumy JSC of the NUJU also received a Chuika, which will help journalists quickly detect air threats while working in conditions of increased danger.
According to the head of the Sumy regional organization of the NUJU and the head of the Sumy JSC, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, the device has already been delivered to Sumy and will soon be available for use by representatives of the media community.
“The detector will be located at the JSC and will be provided for temporary use to journalists from local media, press service employees, communications specialists from government agencies, colleagues from other regions of Ukraine and foreign journalists who will work in the Sumy Region. First of all, to those who will travel to cover events in potentially dangerous areas,” said Volodymyr Sadivnychyi.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the safety of journalists has remained one of the key areas of activity of the NUJU. An important role in this work is played by the network of JSCs operating in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Sumy. The centers provide media workers with protective equipment, technical and consulting support, help with security and psychological stability issues, and create conditions for professional work in frontline and border regions.

The Journalists’ Solidarity Centers network is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in cooperation with the International Federation of Journalists and the European Federation of Journalists.
