The Zaporizhzhia Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC) of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) was visited by representatives of the Public Association Defense of the State, which includes active citizens, volunteers, and veterans who support the defenders, their families, and IDPs. This happened on one of the memorable dates – every year in early October, Zaporizhzhia residents celebrate many patriotic holidays that are associated with important events at both the state and local levels, including City Day and the Day of the Liberation of Zaporizhzhia from Nazi invaders.

The military veterans of the 110th Brigade of the Territorial Defense, representing the Defense of the State non-governmental organization, presented the center’s media workers with a Certificate for fruitful cooperation in the field of charity and active work with displaced journalists.

JSC members Alla Shamrai, Svitlana Kostiuk, and Tetiana Ispandyarova made gifts for the guests – small motankas [Ukrainian national dolls] – pocket dolls that can be attached to anything and worn on body armor and backpacks. The girls promised to make many such artificial baby angels for the brigade fighters, who would protect them while on duty.

The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO, and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.

Contact the Zaporizhzhia JSC at 096 277 5352 (Nataliya Kuzmenko and Valentyna Manzhura, co-coordinators of the Zaporizhzhia Center). The Center’s address is 15 Sobornyi Avenue.
