On the eve of the great Christian holiday of the Resurrection of Christ, displaced students of specialized departments of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and King Danylo University visited the Ivano-Frankivsk Journalists’ Solidarity Center (JSC). Once again, the JSC‘s coordinator, Viktoriya Plakhta, invited them for a friendly conversation.

Future journalists shared their impressions of studying and living in a new city for them – Ivano-Frankivsk told how they spend their free time, and some – about their first experience of working in the profession.

During the conversation, Viktoriya Plakhta briefly informed the students about how local and all-Ukrainian media work in war conditions. Future media professionals focused their attention with interest on printed publications. They reviewed a number of issues of district and regional newspapers. Viktoriya Plakhta, an Honored Journalist of Ukraine with many years of professional experience as the editor-in-chief of the Kolomyia newspaper “Free Voice,” introduced the students to the specifics of preparing a newspaper issue: selecting the composition of the issue, the correct selection of materials, general rules for page layout, etc.

The Center‘s employees informed the students about the events that will be held under the auspices of the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC, in particular, the essay and video essay competition “Our freedom depends on the freedom of the press.” They invited future colleagues to participate in it.

Also, on the eve of the Easter holiday, thanks to the Center‘s partners – the Italian volunteer association Anteas Alessandria from Alessandria, headed by Luciano Cartolano, and the Community of Sant’Egidio, whose coordinator in Ivano-Frankivsk is our member Ivan Kharuk – each of the meeting participants received a gift.

Future journalists thanked for the invitation and Easter colombas for the festive table. Colomba is an Italian traditional Easter sweet bread, something like our Easter cake.

The students emphasized the importance of such meetings at the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC, which became a comfortable place for them to communicate, unite, and support.

Easter gifts from the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC and its partners were also received by Nova Poshta by fellow media professionals from the sponsored Volyn, Rivne, and Chernihiv Regions and journalists from Kramatorsk, Kharkiv, and Kherson, who temporarily lived in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region after the full-scale invasion and later returned to their hometowns.

The network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers is an initiative of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, implemented in collaboration with the International and European Federations of Journalists and UNESCO and with the support of the People of Japan. Our primary goal is to assist media professionals working in Ukraine during the war. The Centers are active in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression in Ukraine.

Call the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC at 066 677 0726 (Viktoriya Plakhta, coordinator of the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC). The Center’s address is 25 Sichovykh Striltsiv Street.
