The documentary On The Frontier. The Heroic Story of the Journalist from the Front-Line Newspaper, filmed by the information service of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), was presented by the President of the Union, Sergiy Tomilenko, at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the prestigious Press Club, where he was invited by the Bavarian Journalists’ Association (BJV).
The film tells about Vasyl Myroshnyk, the editor of Zoria from Zolochiv, who travels 400 km through dangerous territory every week to deliver copies of the newspaper to his readers in the front-line territory, about the editorial office that survived ten flights but continues to work…
“First of all, this film is about the strength of local journalism,” emphasized Sergiy Tomilenko.
He called the meeting with the Vice-President of the Bavarian Parliament, Markus Rinderspacher, particularly touching. A former journalist and TV reporter, he not only understands the importance of independent media but has personally visited Ukraine five times on humanitarian missions, bringing medical equipment and medicines. An official meeting turns into a sincere conversation with a friend of Ukraine.
“Yes, we understand that the world is tired of war. We, Ukrainians, are exhausted by it. But Putin is not tired. He has a reserve of time and resources. That is why international solidarity is now more important than ever,” emphasized Sergiy Tomilenko.
The зкуі of the Union thanked BJV President Herald Stocker and all German colleagues for their strong support. Their understanding of the importance of supporting Ukrainian journalists, especially in the front-line territories, is extremely valuable. In the near future, BJV will announce a special fundraising campaign to support our colleagues in the front-line media. The Congress of the BJV also announced a resolution on the start of a campaign to help Ukrainian journalists.
