The work of local media in wartime, their role in the information space, and overcoming challenges – these issues were discussed by participants in the online meeting of Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernihiv media professionals called How To Survive As A Local Media In Times Of War. Present And Prospects, which was organized by the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC. The friendly dialogue was attended by the President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Sergiy Tomilenko, the secretary of the NUJU / the coordinator of the Ivano-Frankivsk JSC, Viktoriya Plakhta, the head of the Chernihiv regional organization of the NUJU, Oleksandr Nazarenko, the executive secretary of the Chernihiv regional organization of the NUJU, Olha Cherniakova, employees of the Kyiv JSC, and representatives of local media of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernihiv Regions.

The executive secretary of the Chernihiv regional organization of the NUJU, Olha Cherniakova, noted that the JSCs are a lifeline for Ukrainian media workers.

Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernihiv media workers discussed a number of problematic issues regarding the work of local media in war conditions. Colleagues shared their experience and practical advice – how to overcome challenges in order to survive and continue working. A significant influential factor in the active activity of the media is the attraction of grant funds, donor support, and active participation in projects. The participants of the dialogue were also unanimous in the fact that all media should do their job to the best of their ability and try to stand firm, together counteract the information enemy in order to bring the truth to people about this war and what is being done in Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting identified three main problems that local media face during the period of full-scale invasion:

  • financial;
  • personnel (including the problem of booking media personnel);
  • energy (blackouts make it impossible for the media to work uninterruptedly).

Representatives of Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernihiv local media shared their thoughts and suggestions.
