The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) welcomes the decision of the shareholders of Forbes Global Media Holdings to finally cancel the agreement on the sale of the global publication, which, according to the information of the world media, could lead to the control of Forbes by the russian oligarch Magomed Musayev.
The scandalous story of the plans of the russian oligarchy and the Kremlin’s agents of influence to carry out this arrangement caused a great negative resonance in the journalistic community of Ukraine and beyond. Information about the rejection of plans to sell a respected global publication was received by Ukrainian media with great relief.
Approving the decision of the Forbes investors, the NUJU also asks them to consider the issue of revoking the license of the russian magazine Forbes, which is owned by the same Magomed Musayev.
As earlier reported, in May, it became known about the future purchase of 83% of the shares of Forbes Global Media Holdings by Austin Russell, the founder of Luminar Technologies. In October, the Washington Post reported on the possible participation of russian businessman Magomed Musayev in this agreement. Washington Post referred to five audio and one video recording, in which Musayev allegedly said that he was the real buyer of the media holding while everything was formalized for Russell.
