The first issue of the newspaper Trudova Slava, which resumed its publication in the front-line Orikhiv of the Zaporizhzhia Region, was presented by the President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) Sergiy Tomilenko during a meeting with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori and UNESCO Kyiv Liaison Officer Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi.

“The printing of 25 local newspapers has been restored in the de-occupied and front-line territories of Ukraine thanks to the assistance of the NUJU with the involvement of funds from international financial donors,” Sergiy Tomilenko informed the honored guests of the Union.

“I will always keep unforgettable impressions from my recent visit to Orikhiv. We have a Cossack spirit of willingness, and we want a happy fate for our descendants,” Trudova Slava quotes the fighters of the volunteer formation of the Zaporizhzhya community – the unit names Stepovi Vovky (Steppe Wolves). This Cossack invincible spirit is felt everywhere in Zaporizhzhya!” Sergiy Tomilenko wrote on his social network.

He noted that he felt this spirit a few years ago, when the journalistic community of all of Ukraine came to the defense of Svitlana Karpenko, the Trudova Slava editor, when the editorial office was under pressure from the local authorities.

“And today, despite the difficult wartime conditions and the fact that journalists do not have the opportunity to work in the premises of their native editorial office, Trudova Slava, with the support of the Zaporizhzhia Journalists’ Solidarity Center, is again looking for a way to the reader,” added Sergiy Tomilenko.

In the latest issue of Trudova Slava, there are stories about the work of the Orikhiv City Council to ensure the living conditions of those who remained under shelling, about the activities of the Red Cross Society in the community, stories of local residents and stories of heroic deeds of community residents. And, of course, useful information for those who are currently surviving in front-line Orikhiv.

At the first time, the newspaper Trudova Slava will be distributed for free in the Orikhiv community and in Dopomoga Poruch (Help Is Near), the space of unity in the Polohy Raion. We hope that after the liberation of the entire territory of the Region, the local newspapers of Zaporizhzhia will return to the regular publication.

NUJU ensured the printing of at least one issue of 25 local newspapers in the front line and in de-occupied territories. More than half of them received stable multi-month financing from foreign partners.

The restoration of local publications, especially in the de-occupied and front-line territories of Ukraine, is among the main priorities of the NUJU.
