On June 27, the plenum of the NUJU Board discussed the priority areas of activity of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) – issues of safety of media workers, cooperation with the ministries of culture and information policy and defense, and the development of the network of Journalists’ Solidarity Centers (JSC).

The meeting also discussed the work of a number of regional organizations in Kherson, Rivne, and Donetsk, discussed the progress of the restoration of the print press in the front-line and de-occupied territories, as well as the issue of encouraging freelancers, military personnel, and digital media workers to join the NUJU.

“The experience gained by the NUJU today is indicative. In particular, the JSCs, opened jointly with UNESCO, became authoritative service hubs from the Union for media workers in wartime,” NUJU President Sergiy Tomilenko noted.

NUJU First Secretary Lina Kushch, NUJU Secretaries Serhii Cherevatyi and Volodymyr Danyliuk, Board members Valerii Dolyna, Olena Kalaitan, Yaroslav Klymovych, Dmytro Tarasiuk, Head of the Audit Commission Alla Maliienko, Deputy Head of the Audit Commission Yosyp Burcho, Audit Commission member Valentyna Manzhura voiced their remarks and proposals.

The NUJU Board adopted statements about the use by russia of the repressive mechanisms practiced in Crimea in other temporarily occupied territories; regarding the immediate release of Ukrainian journalists illegally detained by the russian federation; on the importance of media recovery as an integral part of Ukraine’s recovery, as well as Procedures for the NUJU admission applications submitted online.

During the meeting, awards were presented to colleagues who were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for services to Ukraine.

A detailed report on the meeting of the Board will be published later.
