As the permanent representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea reported on its Facebook page, in the annexed Crimea, russian special services began to persecute journalist Ziera Bekirova, the editor of the Nenkejan magazine. They have searched the apartment of Zera Bekirova.
“The occupiers are persecuting the Crimean Tatar writer and journalist. On January 26, they conducted an illegal search of the editor-in-chief of the Nenkejan magazine, Ziera Bekirova,” the report says.
It is noted that russian security forces broke into her apartment early in the morning and let her go only closer to midnight. In addition to Ziera Bekirova, her daughter was also interrogated.
It is not yet known what the reason for such meticulous attention of the security forces to the journalist and editor is. Most likely, this search is simply aimed at preventive intimidation of potentially independent journalists and intellectuals.
Ziera Bekirova is a popular Crimean Tatar journalist, publicist, former editor-in-chief of the Yañı Dünya magazine, current editor of Nenkejan magazine, publicist, well-known Crimean writer, and a member of the Union of Writers of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center reported that since the annexation of Crimea, 307 political prisoners and those prosecuted in criminal “cases” have been recorded, 206 of them are representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. The head of the center, Eskender Bariyev, stated that in 2023, human rights defenders recorded 173 detentions, 65 searches, 217 arrests, 186 interrogations, as well as almost 300 cases of violations of the right to a fair trial and more than 50 violations of the right to health.
