“The biggest fear for female journalists is not injury, but the threat of falling into russian captivity. This means the risks of torture, sexual violence, and complete disregard for human dignity,” commented the First Secretary of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), Lina Kushch, to the Polish Wilno TV channel during the opening of the NUJU photo exhibition Journalists At War in Vilnius.
Photo works of Ukrainian media workers during the full-scale invasion were presented within the framework of the assembly called Freedom of the Media in the Context of War.
Kharkiv journalist Hanna Chernenko shared her personal experiences about working in a front-line city: “The spectacle of the bodies of the dead, among them a pregnant woman… It is impossible to describe in words. Shelling, fleeing for cover – this is our reality.”
Ukrainian colleagues are actively using international platforms to convey the truth about the war, emphasize the daily risks, and defend their right to professional activity without threat to life and freedom.
